TRANSPORT PLANNING AT A HUMAN SCALE

Transport planning starts with people and not with the vehicles they use. The starting point is an understanding of people’s needs and motivations, and applying an equitable approach to the analysis of people movement at different scales and by different transport modes.

Planning for safe and healthy mobility requires a door-to-door approach, considering all parts of the journeys we make. This principle of multi-modality only becomes meaningful when it transcends all aspects of the way we plan the built environment and the assessment frameworks we use to evaluate transport investment.

Successful transport planning requires an understanding of connectivity at a range of scales. The most economically successful cities require international connectivity and high quality regional transit, but firms also value the ability to do business with others located a short walk away. Communities all over the world welcome access to opportunities, but what makes neighbourhoods special or rewarding is often local proximity and the opportunity for spontaneous encounters.

Our motto doesn’t just describe the way we do business; it also summarises our transport planning philosophy.

IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT A SHORT WALK IS THE
ULTIMATE MEASURE OF SUCCESS OF TRANSPORT PLANNING
